Castello Luigi RossoCastello Luigi Rosso

CASTELLO LUIGI 2017
The 2017 vintage is characterised by being one of the warmest in Switzerland.
Thanks to the measures taken to limit production, so as to bring about excellent ripening of the grapes, we find in the wine an excellent aromatic freshness.
All vintages ending with a 7 have produced legendary Castello Luigi wines, starting with the 1997 vintage, which marks the beginning of the story: Castello Luigi presents its first fabulous vintage!
This is followed by the epoch-making 2007 vintage, as described by René Gabriel, who awarded it the maximum score of 20/20!
And then we come to the new 2017 vintage that Luigi Zanini Jr rated as the worthy heir to the epoch-making 2007 vintage, giving it the maximum score of 20/20!

84% Merlot | 8% Cabernet Franc | 8% Cabernet Sauvignon.
Production: 9,086 bottles.

Tasting by André Kunz of the Schweizerische Weinzeitung: Concentrated, intense, elegant, silky bouquet, blueberry jelly, strawberries, pralines, nougat and cedar.
Palate dense, full and elegant.
Fruity and creamy, lots of delicate tannins, concentrated structure.
Varied and complex aromas.
The finish is very long, fresh and elegant with a sweet aftertaste.
19/20 | 2024 - 2048.

Castello Luigi BiancoCastello Luigi Bianco

CASTELLO LUIGI BIANCO 2018
We have memories of a hot spring, the fourth hottest since measurements began in 1864.
The summer was also particularly hot, but thanks to timely work in the vineyard, to achieve the right balance between ripeness and acidity, and a consequent adequate ageing, we managed to obtain one of the best vintages of Castello Luigi Bianco.
Luigi Zanini Jr rated this wine thus: "a magnificent 19/20!".

Chardonnay
Production: 3,070 bottles.

Tasting by André Kunz of the Schweizerische Weinzeitung: Delicate bouquet, intense, fruity, yellow pear, hazelnut, floral. Creamy, dense, balanced palate with velvety fruit, delicate, well-integrated acidity, varied aromas, long, full finish.
With growth potential: 18/20 | 2024 - 2045.

- OUR HISTORY -

In 1988 Luigi Zanini bought a property named “Belvedere” located in the village of Besazio (Canton of Ticino – Switzerland) which included an old farmhouse from 1870 positioned right in the centre of the property and called “Civasca”.
The plot of land is located on the south-east side of the hill and lies in a natural basin, in the shape of an anphitheater.

- OUR VINEYARDS -

It covered 43,000 sqm of which 30,000 could be exploited for the cultivation of vines, because the ground consisted of limestone, tuff and slightly sandy soil, thus offering the best conditions for viniculture.
The first planned intervention was a general cleaning of all the brambles and shrubs. Luigi Zanini then planted the new vineyard: 2 hectares of which with Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, plus 1 hectare with Chardonnay. The first bottled vintage was in 1997, 9 years after the planting of the wineyard. Over the years Luigi Zanini has been able to group an area of 278,463 sqm of which 125,374 sqm of vineyards.

- OUR CELLAR -

After obtaining the necessary permits on 27 October 1997, the old farmhouse was torn down and the new building rose in its place, the Castello Luigi.
Luigi Zanini designed an underground helicoidal wine cellar with a depth of 18,5 meters, ensuring that all cellar work could be carried out by gravity: from the pressing of the grapes to the decanting and the bottling, without the wine undergoing any type of mechanical intervention of sort.
